Rajan
believes that he is from Andhra, and speaks Telugu. He has burn
marks all over his body. Rajan may have been disoriented and probably
lost his way. As much as we have gathered, he was brought to Niranam
from the street and placed in a family under the impression that
he was their long lost brother. He was subsequently admitted to
the Trivandrum Mental Hospital when he did not show any improvement.
However, as his treatment progressed since he was not being taken
back he was admitted here. We have tried to reach into Rajan's plight
and have been able to locate his village in Andhra Pradesh. Soon,
we should be able to reunite him with his original family. At the
moment he is coherent and stable, and very much in anticipation
of reuniting with his family.
Ahmed lives a very passive existence and does not
prefer to make eye contact or talk to anyone. He states that he
was in Yervadi, where he was chained, as part of his treatment.
He comes from an extremely poor background with a very old mother
who is helpless. Without help he would probably die on the street.
James comes from a Pentecostal background and has
a family where two others are similarly affected. James has some
level of mental retardation and needs further check up to determine
what other physiological/psychological problems he has. He is not
in a position to lead an unsupported life and will probably always
need community support.
Kishore walks and talks like a female. He tears
up the bed-sheets and pulls out his hair including the eyebrows
if no one is watching. He can probably be helped to lead slife in
a therapeutic environment, where he could be encouraged to live
independently.
All of these persons need therapeutic care and help.
The supportive environment, which we are developing at Prathyasa
Bhavan would go a long way in their resettlement.
